It's been said that life is an evolutionary play on an ecological stage. And every play is a community with a cast and crew, from leading roles to bit players, from directors to janitors. They all share the load and work together to build the whole production. How do we restore the Texas Horned Lizard—a single character that has disappeared from much of its former range? Oftentimes, we find that we have to reset its ecological stage. We learn that other members of the Horned Lizard's wild community perform ecological services to each other free of charge. This reminds us that to restore Texas Horned Lizards, we have to restore the other species that made its prairie home.
